Gate motor installation
What to prepare before the installer arrives, how a sliding or swing gate motor goes in, and the safety checks that finish the job.

Get the gate and the cables ready.
- The gate must move freely by hand. If it is hard to push, fix the rollers, track or hinges first: a motor will not cure a sticking gate and will wear out trying.
- Power at the motor position: a 220 V supply on its own breaker, run by a qualified electrician.
- Conduit for low-voltage cables to the photocells, the flashing light and any keypad or push button.
- A level concrete base for a sliding gate motor, set at the height the manual gives for the gear rack.
- The gate's weight and width, so the motor is the right size. The Gate Kit Builder estimates it.
How a sliding gate motor goes in.
- Fix the motor on its base and release it to manual mode.
- Fit the gear rack along the gate, leaving a small gap above the pinion so the gate's weight does not rest on the gear.
- Set the limit switches: AGL kits use magnets fixed to the rack at the open and closed positions.
- Wire the board: power, photocells, flashing light and any push button.
- Program: learn the remotes, record the travel, set the force and the automatic closing time.
- Test the safety: the gate must stop and reverse when the photocell beam is broken or it meets an obstacle.
Arms, stops and each leaf.
Each leaf gets its own arm, mounted at the post and leaf positions the manual gives: those measurements decide the opening angle and the force on the arm. Fit mechanical stops at the open and closed positions, then wire and program both leaves so they open and close in the right order. On sloping driveways, an arm operator may not fit; the Robô Strong wheel drive handles slopes of up to 25 cm.
Heat, sand and storms.
- Raise the base or use an aerial mount where water collects after storms.
- Seal cable entries against sand and keep the photocell lenses clean.
- Choose a motor rated for the real number of openings: summer heat punishes a motor running at its limit.
- Add a UPS where power cuts are common, so the gate still opens.

Installation FAQ
Can I install a gate motor myself?
A skilled DIYer can do the mechanical work, but the mains connection should be made by a qualified electrician. We recommend an installer who already works with AGL; see the installers page.
How long does installation take?
A standard sliding gate is usually done within a day once power and the base are ready. Swing gates, long cable runs and access control add time.
Why does the gate need to move freely by hand?
The motor is sized to move a gate that rolls or swings easily. A sticking gate overloads it, trips the safety and shortens its life.
Who installs AGL gate motors in my area?
Message us on WhatsApp with your city and we will put you in touch with an installer, or see installers.
Have a gate to automate?
Send the gate type, weight and how often it opens. We reply with the right AGL operator, a price and the lead time from Dubai.
